Michigan Marching Band Invitational held at Atwood Stadium. A few of the bands that were there competing include Bad Axe, Atherton, Durand, Grand Blanc, Carman Ainsworth, Mt. Pleasant, Flushing and Linden. The bands did a great job and were very entertaining.

Making the Most of Every Practice After Getting Your Drill Design.

Now that you have you brand new custom drill design, it is time to practice!

The very first thing you want to do is set goals. You should mix it up and have short and long term goals for your band. You only have so much time so setting goals will ensure you get everything out of every practice.

Second, make sure every student his his/her music and equipment in order.  Make sure to draw up a plan for the day and go over it briefly with everybody.

Third, you are going to want to set a pace. Make sure you are making music and playing music in optimal time to produce the greatest results. Do not overwhelm the students as they are not robots. Give them sufficient time to apply the corrections, but do not err on the side of giving them too much. Also, be concise with your comments and do not keep them waiting for long periods of time. Idle time can easily lead a student’s concentration astray. Put yourself in their place and remember how it felt to be in rehearsals under directors who talked too much.

This is the basis of making a great practice and putting your new drill design to good use!
